Cold front moving in tonight

A cold front will sweep across our area through tonight, while at the same time upper-level energy moves overhead. Rain and high-elevation snow will increase, with the heaviest precipitation across the mountains tonight. A few showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor by later this evening. Most will feel overnight lows in the 40s, with increasing clouds and developing fog through the night.

Widespread cloud cover and localized fog are expected by Wednesday morning. Colder air moving in with the system will drop snow elevations to 8-9000', and significant snow will be possible across mountain passes. Heavy rain and a few embedded thunderstorms will be possible from the I-25 corridor out to the eastern Plains. With extensive cloud cover and cold air advecting in behind the front, daytime highs will only reach the upper 40s to low 50s for most.

As the system departs, clearing skies and strong northerly winds will develop. A few wrap-around rain and snow showers will be possible, but dry conditions are expected by Thursday night. The next few mornings will feature the coldest air of the season so far, and frost and freeze alerts are expected. Friday will remain on the cooler side before a warm-up to seasonal temperatures and more sunshine for the weekend.
