How to follow along with CNN’s election coverage

By Kaanita Iyer, CNN

(CNN) — Millions of voters will cast their ballots Tuesday in an election that will decide the balance of power in Congress and set the tone for President Donald Trump’s remaining two years in the White House.

Democrats and Republicans are battling in tight contests across the country, while the governor’s office in some states is up for grabs.

To help you make sense of these crucial races, CNN is offering on-the-ground reporting, in-depth analysis and interactive experiences across all platforms. Here’s how you can access CNN’s coverage.

Zoom in on the races with CNN’s digital Magic Wall

As John King stands in front of the Magic Wall on election night and breaks down the races, you can navigate along with CNN’s digital offering.

You’ll have the Magic Wall at your fingertips on the CNN app and CNN.com, where you can follow races across the country with an interactive map that allows you to zoom in as far as the county level.

On the app, subscribers will have access to historical data that will allow them to compare results to past election cycles. You can also turn on real-time notifications for key races.

Meanwhile, on the website, you can track when polls close and follow the results of ballot measures and local races. Voter polls will also be available to give insight into how Americans of different demographics are voting.

Sightline

As results start to roll in, it can be difficult to understand what those numbers might be saying about who will ultimately win a key race.

CNN Sightline, a new election tool designed to surface insights from CNN’s Decision Desk, can translate those results into an understandable, real-time read on what’s happening and who is favored to win.

The tool interprets election data through modeling and assessments based on the questions that CNN’s Decision Desk analysts consider as they’re assessing the state of each major race: Where did the votes come from? How do they compare with past elections and pre-election expectations? How much statistical confidence do we have in our estimates? Were they Election Day, by-mail or early in-person votes? And what do we know about what’s left to count?

Sightline brings together the results of a range of estimates meant to answer each of those questions, shows how the CNN Decision Desk interprets those questions at any given moment, and produces an overall rating on whether a race leans toward either candidate.
