ON THE LOOKOUT: Michael John Atwood, wanted for failure to appear

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- KRDO13 is working with Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers to keep you informed about what’s happening in your neighborhoods.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is looking for a man who they say fled ahead of a sentencing hearing for narcotics-related charges.

Crime Stoppers says Michael John Atwood was found guilty of narcotics-related charges with a special offender status that they say would elevate his prison sentence. Ahead of his sentencing hearing, officials say Atwood walked out of the courtroom, left the courthouse and fled in his vehicle.

They say officers and detectives have been unable to locate Atwood since. He is known to possibly be living in an RV or vehicle. Crime Stoppers says he frequents the Castle Rock and Colorado Springs areas.

Atwood now has a felony warrant for failure to appear related to the narcotics and special offender charges, as well as two misdemeanor warrants for his arrest, according to officials.

Atwood is described as a 51-year-old white male, around 6 feet tall and weighing 175 pounds. Officials say he has brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP (719-634-78967) in Colorado Springs.

Tips can be submitted anonymously, and information leading to an arrest could earn an award of up to $1,000.
