WATCH: Bear relocated after wandering through Louisville neighborhood

LOUISVILLE, Colo. (KRDO) -- An adult male bear was safely relocated by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) officers Tuesday afternoon after spending several days in the Louisville area.

CPW says the bear was not leaving the neighborhood on its own, so officers tranquilized and relocated it with assistance from Louisville police officers.

According to CPW, the bear was released into more suitable habitat away from people.

CPW says it's seeing a significant increase in bear sightings and conflicts this year because of drought conditions. With natural food sources limited, bears are increasingly searching neighborhoods for easy meals.

Wildlife officials are urging residents to secure their trash and remove other food attractants to help keep bears wild and reduce dangerous encounters with people.
