COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - A 20-year-old driver was arrested for vehicular homicide and driving under the influence after a passenger died in a rollover crash early Saturday, according to Colorado Springs police.

Officers responded near South Chelton Road and Marlow Circle around 12:13 a.m. Oct. 24. Emergency crews found a passenger who had been ejected from the vehicle dead at the scene.

The driver, identified by police as Karen Bustos, was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Police say she was later arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail.

Police say the vehicle was heading west on South Chelton Road at a high speed when it didn’t make a curve. It hit a curb, rolled over and came to a stop on Marlow Circle. The passenger was thrown from the vehicle during the rollover.

Police say speed and impairment are suspected contributing factors.

The department’s Major Crash Team is investigating. The intersection was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will release the passenger’s identity after their next of kin has been notified.
