Colorado health officials warn of potential measles exposure in three cities

BOULDER, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is sending an alert after an international visitor to the state had a confirmed case of measles.

According to CDPHE, the visitor had been in several places in Colorado, including Boulder, Westminster and Lafeyette. Information from CDPHE shows the visitor was in the state from Tuesday, Sept. 8 to Friday, Sept. 11.

Health officials say symptoms of measles usually start with a fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes. It is then followed by a rash that usually starts on the face and spreads down the body, according to CDPHE.

CDPHE says if someone was at any of the locations listed, they should watch for symptoms for 21 days. If someone thinks they have measles symptoms, health officials ask that they call a healthcare provider, urgent care or emergency department before going in.

CDPHE says if anymore confirmed locations of exposure are discovered, they will be added to their exposure location webpage.
