WATCH: Black bear walks into Colorado Springs fire station, takes gear bag

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A black bear made a surprise visit to a Colorado Springs fire station, walking into the bay at Station 16 and taking off with a gear bag.

The bear quickly left the station, but the Colorado Springs Fire Department says the encounter is a reminder that bears are becoming more active as they prepare for winter.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife says black bears are looking for as much food as possible this time of year. Residents should keep food and trash secured, take down bird feeders, keep pet food indoors, clean grills and only put trash out on pickup day.
