PHOTOS: Critically endangered Amur leopard born at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo gets a name

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- One of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo's (CMZoo) newest members finally has a name!

The critically endangered Amur leopard that was born at the zoo in May has been named Sila. According to officials, the name is Russian for "strength," and that language was chosen because wild Amur leopards are native to the Russian Far East.

CMZoo donors chose her name after her birth earlier this year. Zoo officials say Sila has started to explore the outdoors with her mom, Anya, and they are often found playing together and tumbling.

CMZoo says Amur leopards are known as some of the rarest cats on the planet, and only around 100 remain in far east Russia and China.
