Severe weather with large hail possible in southern Colorado late this evening

We are tracking a Severe Weather Risk for a good chunk of southern Colorado late this afternoon, with the primary risk happening late in the evening and into the overnight hours.

We could see some isolated severe storms around the 5- 6 p.m. time frame, but the bulk of the storms will fire up later this evening.

Heads up, we typically don't see a severe weather risk in the overnight hours, but tonight we've got all the ingredients in place for that to happen.

The biggest threat will be coming from possible supercells that have the potential of packing 2-3 inch-sized hail, damaging winds as high as 70 mph, and an isolated tornado. Again, the biggest risk will be for communities along the I-25 Corridor and areas east of there. Storms could start to fire up at around 9-10 p.m. and continue through the overnight hours.

Expect overnight lows in the mid to upper 50s. We do have a Red Flag Warning for parts of the High Country through 9 p.m. tonight.

A chance of afternoon showers and storms will continue on Wednesday and right through Friday. We could see the possibility of severe storms on each of those days. Highs will climb into the low to mid 80s.

Drier and warmer weather will arrive just in time for the weekend. Expect highs in the lower 90s on Saturday and Sunday, with plenty of sunshine.
