Two killed, one injured in east Colorado Springs apartment shooting

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- Colorado Springs Police are investigating a deadly shooting at the Stone Canyon Apartments, located at 240 North Murray Boulevard, on the city's east side.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), officers arrived just before 10:30 p.m. Thursday, and confirmed a total of 3 people were shot.

Police say that one person was pronounced dead at the scene, while another later died at a hospital; a third person sustained a serious but non-life-threatening injury.

No arrests have been made at this time, as Colorado Springs Police work to sort out the scene.

Police believe that the gunfire began during a confrontation in the parking lot, involving a large number of people.

Billy Sundeen is a resident of an apartment complex across the street, and shares what he heard.

"I was smoking a cigarette last night on my porch," he explained. "My wife was showing me a video on her phone, and the next thing you know, we heard like 10 or 20 shots. A few people who were walking around outside, all ran inside. I didn't hear about what happened when I came out to go to work. This area is a little sketchy. Gunfire is common around here. This is my first apartment, but with stuff like this happening, I don't want to stay around for very long."

More officers began arriving just before 7 a.m. Friday, and residents were allowed to leave.

A group of three women walked up and down the sidewalk in front of the complex, talking with police; presumably, they knew or were related to the victims.
