Emergency water main repairs in Manitou Springs that connect city’s water storage tanks

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Crews spent most of Wednesday performing an emergency water main repair on the water main that connects the city’s water storage tank to all of Manitou Springs.

Officials first announced the emergency repairs at 10:54 a.m. The city's Public Works Department said the repairs were on the water main that connects the city's water storage tank to all of Manitou Springs.

City officials urged residents to conserve as much water as possible.

Residents were asked to:

  • Turn off sprinklers
  • Not wash sidewalks, cars, etc. with water
  • Avoid laundry, dishwashing, etc.
  • Do not use water for anything but necessary activities

At this time, there is no estimated time of completion for the emergency repairs. Just before 11 a.m., the city said crews were beginning the digging to locate the main that requires the repair. Just after 2:30 p.m., officials said crews found the leak and had begun the repairs.

By 4:30 p.m., the city announced the repairs were complete and the water connection had been re-established.

Officials said discolored water and/or low water pressure might happen. If that occurs, residents are asked to run their tap on cold to resolve the issue.
