KRDO

SECURITY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says it was an 85-year-old woman who died in a house fire that happened May 17 in a Security neighborhood.

According to an update from the sheriff's office on Friday, the fire occurred around 2:30 a.m. May 17 on Cypress Drive. One person, Frieda Mason, was killed in the fire.

Deputies and the Security Fire Department responded when the fire broke out and found "large flames and smoke coming out of the residence." Neighboring homes were evacuated while the fire burned. Once the house was safe to enter, firefighters went in and ended up finding Mason inside.

The sheriff's office says there's still an active investigation into what caused the fire, and multiple local fire agencies are working on the case.

EPCSO is asking anyone with information about the fire to call the investigations tip line at 719-520-6666.
