Man arrested in Pueblo on possession of drugs and weapons violations

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Pueblo Police officers took a man into custody early Saturday morning after finding a partially concealed weapon and over 24 grams of suspected heroin in his car.

Around 1:00 a.m., officers responded to a possible drive-by shooting in the 1100 block of S. Prairie Blvd., when they were dispatched to a local hospital for a juvenile man who was dropped off with a gunshot wound to his thigh.

Officers learned the victim was in the area of the alleged drive-by when he was shot and that a gold-colored SUV may have been involved.

A short time later, an SUV matching the description was spotted on Prairie Ave. with a broken rear window. Officers followed the suspected vehicle into a convenience store parking lot and noticed bullet holes in the SUV.

They ID'd the driver as John Garnier, who police say has a history as a Safe Streets fugitive. As Garnier got out of his SUV, officers saw a partially concealed pistol under his seat and found 24.5 grams of what they suspected was heroin.

Garnier was arrested on drug charges and for Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender. The investigation is ongoing.
