Joey Chestnut to compete in slopper-eating championship at Colorado State Fair
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The number 1 competitive eater in the entire world will be making a trip to Pueblo to see if he can swallow sloppers quicker than anyone else at the Colorado State Fair.
Joey Chestnut, known by his competitive eating nickname "Jaws," will be in attendance at the championship on Sept. 5 at the State Fair. Chestnut is ranked number one in Major League Eating, and he regularly wins the Nathan's hot dog eating contest on 4th of July.
Last year, the world record was set by Darron Breeden at 28.25 sloppers in eight minutes. Chestnut, 36, hopes to dethrone Breeden and set a new world record, according to a news release from Major League Eating.
So what is a slopper? It's essentially an open faced burger topped with famous Pueblo green chile. It's as sloppy as it sounds, as KRDO's Dan Beedie can attest after competing in last year's competition.
The slopper eating championship will be held at a private location and live-streamed due to COVID-19 precautions.
