Pueblo man arrested after suspected DUI crash seriously injures 4-year-old son

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- A 27-year-old man in Pueblo is facing multiple charges after allegedly causing a serious crash while a four-year-old child was unrestrained inside the truck.
The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened near the CSU-Pueblo campus on Bartley Boulevard around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday. Witnesses said they saw a man carrying a child while walking away from the truck.
Deputies began searching for the pair, and Pueblo police got a call about a man carrying a child and stumbling in the road on Gamble Lane. Deputies and officers later found them in a gulley nearby.
The man was identified as Keanu T. Valdez, and the child was identified as his four-year-old son. Investigators say Valdez was driving north on Bartley at a high speed when the truck left the road and hit a concrete post. Police say Valdez was wearing a seat belt, but the child was unrestrained inside.
Police also say alcohol is suspected to be involved.
Valdez faces charges of vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury, DUI, child abuse, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and resisting arrest.
