COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Fire Department was called to a working apartment fire Wednesday afternoon east of the downtown area.

Just before 5:30 p.m., CSFD said smoke and fire was billowing from the second floor of a unit at Stratus Apartments in the 470 block of S. Murray Boulevard.

A few minutes later, CSFD said crews got the blaze under control.

The two occupants, plus one dog and one cat, were safely evacuated, said CSFD.

There's no word yet about how the fire may have started. Check back here for updates.
