Negative temperatures make for frigid morning in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- As kids show up to school after a two-hour delay Colorado Springs starts to thaw out after an extremely cold Wednesday morning.

Cheryl Hart said, “It’s a very cold morning here in Colorado Springs. I’ve got three layers on."

Our KRDO Weather App showed temperatures at one point in the -11 degree range, which felt like -25 degrees Fahrenheit with the wind chill.

Wednesday morning, Bear Creek Dog Park was a little less full than normal. But the cold temps didn’t stop these Coloradans from their normal routines.

Casey Jones said, “We are used to Colorado winters.”

While Julie Frost added, “Cold and sunny, can’t beat it.”

And Hart, who isn't a fan of the cold, says the sun helps. “Slows the cars down, slows me down, put extra clothes on. But again, that’s the nice thing about Colorado: it was 70 degrees a couple of days ago so you can take the cold weather for a couple of days. We are close to the sun, so the sun always helps.”

The sun soon came up and temperatures started to rise, though they aren't expected to hit above freezing until Thursday.
