Colorado State Patrol investigating fatal crash on Hwy 24

CALHAN, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado State Patrol confirmed that one person died in a crash on Highway 24 that happened Monday near Calhan.

The crash happened around noon Monday as wintry weather began to move into the region.

According to CSP, a Honda Fit was going east when it lost control on the icy road. At the same time, a semi-trailer was traveling west on the same road. When the Honda began sliding, it got directly in the path of the semi, and the truck collided into the passenger side of the car.

The driver of the Fit was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity hasn't been released yet.

CSP reported that the crash had blocked all of the lanes of traffic near Kanuch Road, but they were reopened by early Monday afternoon.
