Colorado College hosts march and All People’s Breakfast for MLK Day
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- On Monday, hundreds of people gathered to celebrate and honor the life of Dr. Marin Luther King, Jr., the minister who became one of the most visible leaders in the Civil Rights Movement from the '50s to his assassination in 1968.
It started with more than 500 people taking part in the All People's Breakfast at the El Pomar Sports Center. The community march then began at 10:30 a.m. starting at The Worner Center and then finished at Acacia Park.
Tyrone Johnson, who attended the morning's breakfast and march with his daughter, attends the event every year. He says Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is someone we can never forget.
“Really, really important that we take all of his words even some of his most encouraging words to help us model his way on a daily basis," Johnson said.
This morning's breakfast was a fundraiser with all proceeds going to the NAACP and the Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission's scholarship programs.
