Around this time last year, 114 agencies in Colorado arrested 334 impaired drivers. This year, they hope to get that number down. And once again, McDivitt Law Firm is helping out by providing free rides home.

David McDivitt said, “The whole concept is we want to make sure that if you are out drinking on New Year's Eve that you are not driving.”

Every year, they team up with local cab companies in Colorado Springs and Pueblo to help provide a safe alternative option for drivers to get home.

McDivitt said, “What you do is you let the cab company know, 'Hey I want this ride on McDivitt Law Firm.' We will pick up the tab, we do ask that you tip your driver appropriately.”

And this year, they’ve added Lyft to the bill.

“With the rideshare program now with Lyft which you do is enter McDivitt Law, which is the coupon code for Lyft. We will pick up the tab up to 20 dollars,” said McDivitt.

In the 13 years that they have been doing this, thousands of people have taken advantage of it.

McDivitt said, “A few years ago we tabulated how much we spent on the program, it was well over a half a million dollars and it’s obviously gone up since then and we’ve given out well over 20,000 rides, probably closer to 25,000 rides.”

And to them, every penny has been worth it, with McDivitt saying, "If we can prevent just one collision on one New Year's Eve, it’s been successful.”

McDivitt Law Firm says there are no plans of shutting this program down. As they will continue to provide rides to those who need it for many New Year's to come.

The free rides are from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. and can only be used to take you home.
