CANON CITY, Colo. -- The Colorado Department of Corrections released the identity of the man who was killed in a boiler explosion Wednesday.

According to CDOC, it was Sgt. Joshua Voth, 28, who was "killed in the line of duty in an accident at the Fremont Correctional Facility."

Just before noon Wednesday, fire crews were called to the scene at the Colorado Department of Corrections East Cañon Complex. They found that the boiler had "suffered a catastrophic failure."

CDOC said the investigation is still ongoing, but it's confirmed that Voth was killed by the boiler explosion. It's not yet clear what led to the explosion.

Voth had been with CDOC since 2016, and was a correctional support licensed trade supervisor, according to the department. Voth is survived by his wife and three children.

A Gofundme page has been set up for supporters to donate to Voth's family.

The following statement was provided by Department of Corrections Executive Director Dean Williams:

I am deeply saddened to announce that today a staff member from the Fremont Correctional Facility was killed in an accident while on duty. Our DOC family is devastated by this loss, and we are praying for all of this staff member's loved ones. Our primary focus at this time will be supporting the staff member's family and our DOC team as we navigate this tragedy together.
