PARK COUNTY, Colo. -- Colorado State Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash Friday evening that killed an 8-year-old boy.

At about 6:30 p.m. Friday, a 2004 Toyota Tundra was traveling southbound on Highway 285 when it drifted over the center line into the northbound lane near mile marker 186, says CSP.

The Toyota collided head-on with a 2017 Hyundai Tucson, causing the Toyota to roll one and a quarter times. The Hyundai collided with a guard rail but remained on its tires.

The driver and sole passenger of the Toyota, 56-year-old Shawn McGuire of Alma, was transported with serious injuries, according to CSP.

The driver of the Hyundai, Jacqueline Benns of Bailey, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. There were two passengers in the Hyundai, 8-year-old Tristan Benns and 28-year-old Adam Smith.

Tristan Benns was declared dead at the scene. Adam Smith was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

State Patrol says that alcohol, drugs and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash at this time. Both drivers and all passengers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
