Pueblo County Football looking to build on winning culture entering new season

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO)-- Pueblo County football is getting used to winning.

After a successful 2025 season that included a 7-4 record, victories over every Pueblo-area opponent and an undefeated record at home, the Hornets are determined to keep the momentum going.

"Coming to this and actually winning, there's no better feeling," senior Brady Ware said. "I just want to keep doing it, and I don't want to lose again."

That mindset has become the standard around the program. After taking pride in dominating local competition last season, the Hornets have their sights set on even bigger goals.

"Last year, beating all the Pueblo teams was exciting," senior quarterback Brody Harrison said.

The foundation for that success is built long before Friday nights. Coaches say competition is a major part of every practice.

"As coaches, we always say, let them know," Pueblo County head coach Ramie Enriquez said. "We encourage them to have fun. We encourage them to go out there and compete and challenge one another."

Players say that competitive environment can get intense at times.

"We had some fights in practice, some fists thrown," Ware said jokingly. "I think that brings that competitiveness, that grit, whatever you want to call it."

While practices can be heated, the Hornets say it's all part of pushing each other to improve. By the time game day arrives, they're confident they're prepared.

"You're coming out of the locker room with your dudes going out, the band's playing, crowds cheering, and there's just no other experience," Ware explained.

Despite last season's success, Pueblo County believes it is still being overlooked by those outside the program. That perception is providing extra motivation as the Hornets prepare for another campaign.

"The people from all those schools think we're a 5-5 team, and I don't believe it," Harrison said. "I think all of us together, we can go deep in the playoffs."

After establishing themselves as one of Pueblo's top teams a year ago, the Hornets are focused on proving last season was no fluke and showing they belong among the contenders in the postseason race.
