4A State Tennis Tournament: Palmer Ridge’s Tessa Rothwell earns second individual tennis title
PUEBLO, Colo., (KRDO) - Palmer Ridge's Tessa Rothwell knows what it's like to be a title holder all too well.
Two years ago she won the No. 3 singles title 6-0, 6-0, but this competition took her three sets.
"Victory is so sweet," said Rothwell. In no. 2 singles, Anne Salle from Niwot would put up a fight against Palmer Ridge's very own Tessa Rothwell.
The senior would use her experience to the best of her advantage and would go on and win this in three sets. Clinching her second invidifual state title after a 7-5 win in the third set.
Though a tough one, the senior kept a smile on her face expressing she wasn't expecting to win, she just wanted to have fun.
"I was okay with coming in second," Rothwell says, "so when I won, I was really surprised."
Like many high school athletes, she sat out last season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, putting a stall on high school sports, that made this victory much sweeter.
"This is a good conclusion to a good four years, but really only three seasons," Rothwell says, "so this was just like a nice cherry on top to finish it out."
The senior will attend Kansas State in the fall and study math and economics.
