Colorado animal sanctuary overwhelmed with goats after rescuing 58 from a hoarding situation

PEYTON, Colo. (KRDO) -- Today, the OutPaws Sweet Home Sanctuary is overwhelmed by cuteness, and also the massive cost of caring for 87 goats.

The animal sanctuary was contacted in October about a homeowner who had too many goats to care for safely. Carrie Thornburgh, the founder of OutPaws, thought she would be picking up 22 female goats from the hoarding situation, but when she arrived, she discovered it was far more.

"There were 58 females, and we knew at that point that because the males and females weren't separated, that if we didn't take all of the females, there would be no point in even being there because the problem wouldn't stop because the breeding would continue," said Thornburgh.

So Carrie made room at her animal sanctuary for all 58. However, when a veterinarian examined the goats, they told Carrie that 17 goats were expecting.

Over the last three weeks, Carrie has delivered 29 baby goats, walking back and forth to the barn all through the long nights to make sure the goats are okay.

Although Carrie views herself as a mom to the goats and loves them dearly, caring for the goats is extremely expensive.

Carrie says the animal sanctuary needs help. Because OutPaws is a nonprofit relying solely on donations, they need financial help to cover the price of hay, veterinary costs, and sheltering the animals.

The nonprofit also needs volunteers to help take care of the goats and to build infrastructure to keep them safe.

You can donate to the OutPaws Sweet Home Sanctuary to help with the goats' care and veterinary costs at this verified fundraiser.
