Fire north of Peyton contained, crews extinguish hot spots

PEYTON, Colo. (KRDO) -- A fire that broke out north of Peyton Mondy is 100% contained.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says the fire started near the intersection of Fremont Fort Dr. and Warriors Path Dr.

At 5:34 p.m., the fire had burned between three and five acres with no risk to structures.

At 5:48, the El Paso County Sheriff's office said the fire had been reduced to three acres with some isolated spots occasionally flaring back up.

The sheriff's office says the fire moved slowly to the north. Several agencies responded to the scene.

At 8:21 p.m., the El Paso County Sheriff's Office confirmed the fire was completely contained. Crews remained on the scene throughout the evening to extinguish any possible hot spots.

No word on what caused the fire.
