COVID-19 case reported at Queen Palmer Elementary School

MGN

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — Colorado Springs School District 11 said it was notified of a positive COVID-19 case at Queen Palmer Elementary School.

Because of the number of individuals being placed in quarantine, the district said the school will move to remote learning until October 20. District 11's Chief Communication Officer, Devra Ashby, clarifies, "The reason that it’s the 20th is that we have a professional workday on the 16th and a furlough day on the 19th, which extends that time."

The district did not specify how many students are being quarantined. Ashby says, "Here at Queen Palmer, it is a smaller elementary school, and the individual was in contact with more than just their cohort, so we had to quarantine the school."

Grab and go lunches will still be available to students.

The district said the person who was diagnosed with COVID-19 is being kept home until they are no longer exhibiting symptoms.

The people who were in close contact with that person have been told to quarantine for two weeks.

The district said custodial teams continue to clean and disinfect school buildings on a regular basis.
