One dead following motorcycle crash in Fountain on Saturday

MGN

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KRDO) -- Fountain Police said one man is dead after riding a motorcycle without a helmet and attempting to illegally pass another vehicle on the right shoulder.

Investigators believe the motorcyclist lost control while on the shoulder and crashed. Fountain Police and Fire found the man dead when responding to the crash on Saturday afternoon around 1:20 p.m.

The Fountain Police Accident Reconstruction Team determined that the motorcyclist was traveling west on Squirrel Creek Road when the crash happened. It shut a portion of the road down for roughly three hours Saturday afternoon, but the road has since reopened.

Police said the motorcycle was listed as stolen out of Colorado Springs.

Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, but they do believe speed played a role in the motorcyclist losing control.

The name of the man who died will not be released until the El Paso County Coroner's Office has a chance to notify his next of kin.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
