Man wanted in connection with two robberies apprehended in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says it has arrested a man wanted in connection with two robberies in the Stetson Hills area last week.

According to CSPD, 54-year-old Richard Kosut was arrested on October 1 in the 2900 block of East Pikes Peak Avenue around 11 a.m.

Kosut was wanted for two robberies. The first robbery occurred on September 20 along Austin Bluffs Parkway. Witnesses reported that a male suspect entered the premises, aimed a firearm at staff members and demanded cash before fleeing before police arrived. An identical robbery took place the following day at a commercial establishment located on North Academy.

CSPD had previously requested the public's help in locating Kosut after an arrest warrant was filed. On September 26, CSPD says they executed a search warrant at a residence on Hackamore Court and found evidence connecting Kosut to both robberies, but he was not present.

CSPD's Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force worked with CSPD robbery detectives to conduct surveillance on a house in the 2900 block of East Pikes Peak Avenue after seeing Kosut's car in the driveway on Thursday.

CSPD says a resident of the home left in another car, and they conducted a traffic stop and confirmed Kosut was inside the residence. CSPD tactical units, as well as a K9, responded to the scene to help, and as they attempted to contain the scene, Kosut fled out the back door.

CSPD says he then jumped a fence into a neighboring yard, and a K9 was deployed after issuing warnings to Kosut. The K9 made contact with Kosut on the upper back and bicep, according to CSPD.

Tactical officers took Kosut into custody and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment before being booked into the El Paso County Jail.
