Deputies make arrest following dangerous driving incident on I-25

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) arrested a 31-year-old man after responding to a possible kidnapping and domestic violence incident occurring inside a white sedan traveling southbound on I-25 near County Line Road.

According to EPSO, they responded to the area alongside the Monument Police Department and attempted a traffic stop. EPSO says the suspect did not stop and sped away.

Law enforcement confirms that they initially followed the suspect but chose to stop due to high-volume traffic in the area. EPSO says shortly after, multiple reports described the same vehicle allegedly driving on the shoulder and grass along I-25 and nearly hitting other vehicles.

Colorado Springs Police Department launched a drone to locate the vehicle as it exited I-26 onto Briargate Parkway, EPSO says.

Deputies then located the suspect as he allegedly drove onto a traffic island at the traffic circle at Briargate Parkway and Wolf Center Drive. EPSO says he then backed off the island and stopped in the driving portion of the traffic circle.

The suspect, identified as Bryan Garcia, was ordered out of his vehicle at gunpoint, EPSO confirms.

Law enforcement says the victim was uninjured and cleared by medical on scene, and the investigation into the report of domestic violence was unfounded.

Garcia was charged with the following and later released on a $2,000 bond, EPSO confirms:

  • Driving under restraint
  • Driving under the influence
  • Possession of a weapon by a previous offender
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Vehicular eluding
