Man arrested after entering home through window, deputies say

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A 36-year-old man was arrested after a neighbor reported seeing him enter an El Paso County home through a window, leading to a standoff with deputies and a K9 response.

According to EPSO, around 12:57 p.m. on Sept. 18, near the 15000 block of East Highway 24, a neighbor reported seeing a man exit a white van and enter a residence through a window. Law enforcement says they were able to confirm with the homeowner that the individual did not have permission to enter their property.

EPSO says deputies secured the area around the residence and contacted the driver of the white van, a rideshare provider, who gave law enforcement identifying information on the suspect.

The suspect was identified as James DShone Williams, who EPSO says had an extensive criminal history.

Deputies say that, because of Williams' alleged criminal history, the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Impact Team responded to the scene, along with K9 Dex.

According to EPSO, deputies tried to contact Williams by phone and made several commands for him to exit the residence. When Williams did not exit the home, EPSO says deputies entered and located him in a bathroom.

Deputies say a pepper ball was deployed inside the residence, and eventually K9 Dex was deployed to assist with the arrest.

EPSO says Williams was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Law enforcement says he has since been booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $2,000 bond for the following charges:

  • Second-degree burglary
  • Obstructing a peace officer
  • Resisting arrest
  • Failure to leave premises
  • Criminal mischief
