Man arrested after allegedly setting car on fire in El Paso County neighborhood

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man has been arrested for arson after allegedly setting at least one car on fire in a neighborhood in El Paso County.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO), deputies were called to the scene of a vehicle on fire in front of a house in the 8100 block of Piute Road in the Cheyenne Mountain Estates area of El Paso County around 4:20 a.m. on August 26.

Officials say EPSO deputies along with members of the Southwest Highway 115 Protection District responded and were able to control the scene.

Deputies say they contacted two victims who had vehicles on the property that were damaged. According to EPSO, they had received threats earlier in the evening from someone they knew.

Neighbors were able to provide security footage, which identified the suspect as 32-year-old Alex Luevano. Deputies tried to locate Luevano but weren't able to find him so they obtained an arrest warrant and the case was sent to EPSO's Fugitive Impact Team.

EPSO says they were able to locate Luevano on September 3 at a home in the 1000 block of Rice Drive in the Stratton Meadows area of Colorado Springs. Luevano tried to run but was taken into custody shortly after.

According to EPSO, Luevano now faces charges of:

• Criminal mischief
• First-degree criminal trespass
• Harassment
• Second-degree arson
• Second-degree criminal tampering

He was booked into the El Paso County Jail and then released on a personal recognizance bond after his advisement hearing.
