Three incidents of assault on police officers reported in Colorado Springs over weekend

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says multiple people were arrested after assaulting police officers in separate incidents over the weekend.

According to CSPD, three separate incidents took place between Friday and Sunday where police officers were assaulted.

The first happened on Friday night around 10:50 p.m. in the 400 block of Prospect Lake Drive. According to CSPD, officers were at Memorial Park trying to contact people when a group tried to run. They were stopped and CSPD says that is when a struggle took place. Officers were able to get the subject in handcuffs, but they continued to struggle as they tried to put the suspect in a cruiser.

CSPD says during that struggle, two officers were assaulted and several more showed up to help. The subject was then found to have multiple outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants and was a runaway. They were admitted to a juvenile detention facility. CSPD says one officer received medical attention but remained on duty.

The second incident happened Sunday, Sept. 6 around 8 a.m. According t o CSPD, an officer was working in the 1500 block of Space Center Drive when a shoplifting suspect exited a store. The officer tried to stop them, and CSPD says the suspect did not follow commands. When the officer tried to arrest the suspect, CPSD says both the suspect and the officer went down to the ground.

The suspect then hit the officer in the face, according to officials. The officer was helped by a civilian and used a less-than-lethal tool to take the suspect into custody.

Aaron Wiebe was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. The officer was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.

The third incident happened on Saturday around noon in the 400 block of West Garden of the Gods Road. According to CSPD, officers were investigating a domestic violence assault and established probable cause to arrest the suspect. Officials say they contacted the suspect at her work, and while there she became aggressive and started attacking both officers.

Both officers sustained minor injuries but were able to arrest the suspect. Jullisa Pruiett was arrested and charged with second-degree assault on a peace officer and a third-degree assault charge for her original domestic violence case. She was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
