Man arrested after allegedly firing gun into air, forcing entry into Colorado Springs home

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A 31-year-old man was arrested Tuesday evening after police say he forced his way into a Colorado Springs home with a gun and fired multiple rounds into the air.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says it received multiple 911 calls around 5:32 p.m. Sept. 1 reporting a disturbance involving a firearm and shots fired at a home in the 1100 block of Norwood Avenue.

Police say one caller told dispatchers her uncle had forced his way into the home with a gun and said he intended to kill someone. Dispatchers could hear people screaming in the background, according to police.

Other callers reported seeing a man moving between the home's yard and a detached garage while holding a firearm and firing shots into the air, says CSPD.

Officers say they arrived around 5:39 p.m. and found a man in the front yard who matched the description callers provided. Police said the suspect ran inside the home when officers tried to contact him and slammed the door.

The man later returned to the doorway, where police said he was verbally combative and yelled at officers to kill him.

Police say when he refused to comply, officers used a Taser and took the suspect into custody.

According to law enforcement, no one was injured, and several shell casings were found in the backyard near a detached garage. Police say they also found a bullet hole in the neighbor's home and a .45-caliber handgun inside the detached garage, where police say the suspect resides.

Police identified the suspect as Delano Hernandez, 31.

Hernandez was charged with the following:

• Illegal discharge of a firearm
• Possession of a weapon by a previous offender
• Obstructing a peace officer
• Reckless endangerment
