Driver accused of repeatedly hitting patrol vehicle, parked car during attempted escape

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- A 31-year-old man is facing multiple charges after police say he repeatedly rammed a patrol vehicle and an occupied parked car while attempting to flee from officers in Pueblo.

According to the Pueblo Police Department (PPD) the incident happened around 8:35 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, in the 800 block of E. 4th Street, where officers were conducting Directed Investigations and Community Engagement, or DICE, enforcement.

PPD says officers observed a traffic violation and followed the vehicle into a parking lot, where they initiated a traffic stop.

As officers got out of their patrol vehicle, police say the driver, identified as Demarco Gallegos, attempted to leave by reversing and crashing into the front of a patrol vehicle. Law enforcement says Gallegos then drove forward, hitting an occupied parked vehicle and concrete pillars in front of a store.

Police say Gallegos then reversed again into the patrol vehicle before driving forward a second time, hitting the victim's vehicle and the store's pillars again. Police say he then got out of his vehicle and attempted to run.

According to police, officers used a Taser to take him into custody. Gallegos reported injuries and was taken to a hospital for medical clearance before being taken to the Pueblo County Detention Center, says PPD.

Police confirm that Gallegos was charged with attempted vehicular assault, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.
