Man suspected in Aurora homicide arrested in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man wanted in a homicide investigation in Aurora was arrested in Colorado Springs Monday, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

CSPD says 31-year-old Armanni Baraka Woods was taken into custody near the 1700 block of Aeroplaza Drive. Detectives with the Aurora Police Department's (APD) Fugitive Apprehension and Surveillance Team asked for help from CSPD around 11 a.m. Monday.

CSPD says Woods was believed to be in a vehicle, and armed and dangerous. CSPD's Tactical Enforcement Unit, K9 Unit, and a drone responded to the area to assist. Woods was positively identified, and tactical units surrounded his vehicle.

Woods was taken into custody without incident. According to APD, officers responded to a man who was unresponsive around 7:30 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of East Warren Avenue and South Galena Street.

APD says officers determined the 49-year-old man had suffered from a gunshot wound and died before first responders arrived. The victim has not yet been identified.

Officials determined the shooting had occurred near the 2200 block of South Havana Street.

Woods was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center due to active local warrants, APD says. He is being charged out of Aurora with first-degree murder with deliberation, and charges will be filed by the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office, according to officials.

APD says the homicide investigation remains open and ongoing.
