Man arrested after assaulting peace officer, found with stolen gun

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man has been arrested after assaulting a peace officer during a traffic stop, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

CSPD says the incident started after a traffic stop around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3. The vehicle stopped, but had a temporary license plate that was hard to read and a male driver refused to roll the window down more than a few inches. He was stopped near 500 S. Academy Blvd.

According to officials, the driver, Victor Carter, had several weapons-related offenses, and additional officers were requested. Officers ordered Carter to get out of the car, and he failed to follow commands, but did start to get out of the car after his door was open, CSPD says.

After that, Carter then tried to stay in the truck by holding onto the headrest when an officer noted he had a gun in his waistband, according to officials. Carter got out of the car and ran into the middle lane of northbound South Academy Boulevard.

CSPD says officers were able to take Carter down but he continued to resist arrest. Eventually, Carter was taken into custody and received medical treatment both on scene and at a hospital before being transferred.

According to officials, the gun Carter had in his waistband was stolen, and a second gun was located in his car along with a large quantity of narcotics.
