21-year-old arrested in connection with Trinidad homicide

TRINIDAD, Colo. (KRDO) -- A 21-year-old has been arrested during a homicide investigation in Trinidad, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

According to officials, law enforcement responded to a call around 12:20 a.m. on Friday, July 31 for a physical altercation with three people in the 600 block of South Indiana Avenue.

CBI says officers located 29-year-old Dominic Garcia, who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. First responders attempted to save him, but he was pronounced dead around 1:30 a.m. that morning.

21-year-old Atilano Diaz was taken into custody in connection with the incident and charged with second-degree murder and prohibited use of a weapon, according to officials.

CBI says the investigation remains active and ongoing. The Trinidad Police Department is assisting in the case.
