Pueblo man arrested for attempted homicide after firing shots at girlfriend

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) arrested a man for attempted homicide after he fired shots at his girlfriend earlier this month.

According to officials, 20-year-old Jakob Chavira was arrested in his home at the 1500 block of Pine Street by PCSO detectives and U.S. Marshals on Thursday July 16.

Deputies were called to a home in the 3000 block of Ford Road on July 7 and learned about a verbal argument between Chavira and his girlfriend, according to PCSO. As the girlfriend tried to leave the home, Chavira fired several shots towards her.

No one was injured, and the victim left the area before speaking with PCSO at another location. Deputies later issued a search warrant on the home and found several shell casings, leading to them issuing a warrant, according to officials.

Deputies attempted to contact Chavira at the home on Ford Road, but learned he had already left. Deputies tried to stop a car matching the description of one he was driving, but it fled from them before ending up at a Walmart at 4200 Dillon Dr., according to officials.

Chavira was seen on security video entering the store, then getting picked up by his mother, according to PCSO.

Chavira's mother, Audri Chavez, 38, admitted to picking her son up but refused to give deputies his location. She was arrested July 7 for being an accessory to a crime and booked into the Pueblo County Jail, PCSO says.

PCSO says Chavira was arrested on a no-bond warrant for attempted first-degree homicide, illegal discharge of a firearm and domestic violence on Thursday.

Chavira has been booked into the Pueblo County Jail.
