Colorado Springs celebrates Parks and Recreation Month with free events

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department has released a slate of events to celebrate Parks and Recreation Month in July.

According to the city, this year's theme, "The Power Of," will celebrate the role parks and recreation play in creating community in Colorado Springs. All events and activities are free throughout the month.

Some ongoing events released by the city are:

• Coloring Contest (July 1-31)
  • Winner announced in August
• Outdoor movie and silent disco (July 17)
  • Hillside Community Center, starting at 5:30 p.m.
• Music in the Park (July 24) -- SofaKillers
  • Piñon Valley Park, starting at 6 p.m.
