Colorado Springs homeowners fight efforts to build waste transfer station near neighborhood

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Homeowners in southeast Colorado Springs started a petition to prevent a trash transfer station from moving into their neighborhood.

The petition alleges that a company called Citywide LLC is planning to move a waste disposal station to Laramie Drive and Hancock Expressway.

"This is not only going to make our part of town stink, but it’s going to make our property values plummet," Karin Menendez wrote in the petition on Change.org. "I don’t know about you, but I work too hard to make my house a home, only for someone who doesn’t even live here to trash it... Literally."

The petition also urges homeowners to reach out to Colorado Springs City Council about their concerns, and it goes on to urge renters in that neighborhood to reach out to their landlords about this issue.
