Police identify victim in fatal hit-and-run south of downtown Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Police have identified the victim of a fatal hit-and-run last week in the 1400 block of S. Nevada Avenue.

The victim, identified as 52-year-old Harold Mackey III of Sioux City, Iowa, was hit while crossing westbound on S. Nevada Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Police say that Mackey was not in a designated crosswalk when a dark colored SUV traveling southbound struck him and then fled the scene.

Mackey died at the scene. Colorado Springs police say this is the eighth pedestrian fatality in 2019.

This remains an active investigation.

Police are trying to find the suspect involved in a fatal traffic accident near Dorchester Park Wednesday evening.

Police reported the incident just before 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of S. Nevada Avenue.

CSPD said a man was walking west across S. Nevada when he was struck by a dark-colored SUV. The SUV then fled the scene.

Police are still investigating the crash
