Colorado Springs mobile home community steps up charity amid COVID19 crisis
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - One of the city's age-restricted mobile home communities is banding together to make sure they all make it through the COVID-19 outbreak here.
Holiday Village Mobile Home Community on Sinton road only allows residents over 55.
We're told a program called Cares was founded within the community before the COVID-19 outbreak here in Colorado Springs -- but has grown exponentially since.
The Cares Committee sets up home visits, does light housekeeping and grocery shopping, and helps out residents when they come home after a hospital stay.
Since the stay-at-home order was put in place -- and many of the residents still working lost their jobs -- Cares has started putting together supply bags and delivering them to residents who need a helping hand.
Cares recently reached out to the entire community asking for donations.
"A call went out to residents of the park for help and many stepped up in a big way," said Dee Brown, a co-chairperson on the committee of around 20 people.
Brown told KRDO they've since collected more than 900 dollars, and nearly 1,300 pounds of food and personal items. They've also made more than 80 cloth face masks for residents in need.
