Shots fired during attempted carjacking, CSPD searching for suspects

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Police are searching for multiple suspects after an attempted carjacking overnight resulted in shots being fired.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), dispatchers received a 911 call around 12:45 a.m. for an attempted carjacking with shots fired in the parking lot of a business in the 3000 block of N. Chestnut St.

CSPD says the victim stated multiple suspects, armed with handguns, had attempted to steal his vehicle.

The suspects were distracted by an employee who intervened, and the victim was able to get into his vehicle and leave the scene, according to police.

CSPD says the victim reported hearing at least one shot fired behind him as he fled. When police arrived on scene, the suspects had left the area.

CSPD located both live rounds and several spent shell casings on the ground, and later, a bullet hole was found in the window of the business.

A KRDO13 crew was able to locate this bullet hole in the window of Maverick gas station.

Two additional victims were also contacted who reported having been threatened with a gun by one of the suspects before the attempted carjacking.

No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
