Denver International Airport opens new security checkpoint, terminal changes at North End

Denver International Airport

DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Denver International Airport (DEN) says several updated areas are open in the Jeppensen Terminal as they work on the Great Hall Program.

According to the airport, the improvements include a new meet-and-greet area for international arrivals and those returning from the Terminal from the A Bridge. There is also now a North Security Checkpoint, DEN says.

“DEN passengers have been exceedingly patient during the Great Hall renovations and we are excited to reveal these new areas as they are completed. Friends and family members will now have a beautiful new space outside of international arrivals to meet arriving loved ones ahead of this year’s busy holiday travel season,” DEN Chief Construction and Infrastructure Officer Jim Starling said in a press release. “Having these areas of the Great Hall available for visitors to use and enjoy represents an important milestone in the project as we look ahead to completion of the entire project by the end of next year.”

The airport says people leaving via the A Bridge on level six can take an elevator, escalator or stairs to level five to get easier access to baggage claim and airport exits. They say the new area also has seating, art and a new information booth.

The North Security Checkpoint will have eight lanes and be open every day from 12:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. The airport says it will give international passengers an easier way to get to a TSA checkpoint. DEN warns availability may be limited, so those who need special assistance or have CLEAR or TSA PreCheck should use the East or West Checkpoints.

The airport also says it is bringing back four artworks to the Great Hall that have been in storage for several years. Those include:

  • Mile High and Rising by Marcus Akinlana
  • La Memoria de Nuestra Tierra by Judith Baca
  • Spirit of the People: A Native American Exhibition, commissioned for the airport in 1995, done by Native artists
  • Tribute to Elrey Jeppesen by George Lundeen

“As we bring down the construction walls in the final phase of the Great Hall, travelers will see more than new gathering spaces – they’ll experience Colorado’s story coming back to life through the return of iconic artworks,” Denver Mayor Mike Johnston said in a press release. “These details make DEN more than an airport, they reflect who we are. This investment is about building a welcoming, easy-to-travel-through space and delivering the best possible experience for everyone who passes through Denver.”

More information about the Great Hall Program can be found on the airport's website.
