Ice Castles will not run in Colorado this year after announcing it won’t return to Silverthorne

SILVERTHORNE, Colo. (KRDO) -- After cancelling its Cripple Creek event earlier this month, Ice Castles says it will also not return to Silverthorne this year, according to our Denver news partners.

9News reports the event will still run in New Hampshire, but not in either of its usual Colorado locations. Ice Castles had previously said it planned to scale back the number of locations it was going to operate this season. They operated last year in New Hampshire, Utah and Minnesota as well as Colorado.

When the organization cancelled its Cripple Creek season, officials cited operational and business considerations, including challenges caused by a mild winter across the country last year.

Ice Castles first opened in Cripple Creek in 2023. Since then, the winter attraction has drawn thousands of visitors each year, providing an economic boost to local businesses during the typically slower winter months.

The attraction has expanded over the years, adding amenities such as a bar, snack sales and firepits. Its ice engineers also introduced new designs each season to give returning visitors a different experience.
