Fort Carson conducting prescribed burns in November and December, warn smoke may be visible from I-25, Hwy 115

FORT CARSON, Colo. (KRDO) -- Fort Carson says it will be conducting prescribed burns at two locations starting November 1 through the end of December.

According to Fort Carson officials, the prescribed burns will be at the installation's training area and PiƱon Canyon Maneuver Site. They say the prescribed burn program will help reduce the potential for wildland fires, and will only run if weather is favorable.

Fort Carson says the burns will help with military training in the two areas as well. They make sure to avoid heavy vegetation that could fuel a wildland fire. Fort Carson officials also say they work on mitigating potential off-site effects from the smoke on public health and visibility.

Officials are warning that smoke will be visible along the Interstate-25 and Highway 115 corridors, including from Colorado Springs to Pueblo and in parts of Las Animas County along Highway 350.

Anyone with questions is asked to contact Fort Carson public affairs at 719-526-9849.
