COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Springs Police and the Pikes Peak Council are at John Venenzia Community Park with local school children holding signs to encourage safe driving.

The city's campaign for safer driving public service announcements will be voiced by local kindergarten students and put on multiple platforms of media.

Those platforms will be social media, television, radio and several billboards in the Colorado Springs location.

Trish Iaquinta, a local advocate at the press conference, "I think as a parent we are reminded when we have children, they kind of make us check ourselves and say you're right. I should slow down".

The goal of the campaign is to use the simplicity of the rules taught to kids in kindergarten and make them applicable to driving safely.

"I think it's definitely impactful when our children are telling us, hey let's do the right thing. Let's make the right choice," Iaquinta said.

The four lessons are very simple to learn which are waiting your turn, be kind, paying attention, and slowing down on the road.

The city says the main focus is to reduce injuries from fatal crashed by thirty-five percent by 2035.

"A part of the plan was an educational focus and with their help, this our first annual effort to have an educational component to our safety program," City Traffic Engineer Todd Frisbie said.
