Smoke visible across Colorado Springs area from Rampart Reservoir prescribed burn

U.S. Forest Service - PSICC National Forest

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) is alerting the community to smoke from a prescribed burn northwest of the city that is visible in the area.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, crews are conducting a prescribed burn in the Rampart Reservoir area about three miles east of Woodland Park. Officials say a test fire met expectations, and firefighters will continue with additional ignitions.

Smoke production could last for a couple of days and may be visible from Highway 24, Woodland Park, the Pikes Peak area and Interstate 25 near Colorado Springs.

Officials say the prescribed fire is part of a larger effort to strategically reduce wildfire risk to nearby communities and infrastructure.

The Forest Service says additional updates will be provided as the Rampart Reservoir Area prescribed fire continues.
