Up to 1,250 new jobs coming to Colorado as part of Lockheed Martin expansion

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Gov. Jared Polis announced hundreds of new jobs for Coloradans after a global security and defense contractor announced an expansion.

According to officials, Lockheed Martin's Space division will expand its operations at facilities in Douglas and Jefferson counties.

Gov. Polis says the investment will bring up to 1,250 jobs for residents over the next four years. Officials say the jobs will include cybersecurity engineers, software engineers, technicians and administrative services.

“Our growth is a direct reflection of the vibrant ecosystem here in Colorado,” Kate Watts, Vice President of Lockheed Martin Space Strategy & Business Development said in a press release. “Together, we’re building more than systems and satellites. We’re building careers, communities and a future where Colorado continues to lead the world in space.”

Currently, Lockheed Martin says it has 125,000 employees with 12,000 of those being in Colorado. Officials say the company makes things like weather and communications satellites, but also works on national defense systems and exploration spacecraft.

Officials say Lockheed Martin has been in Jefferson County since 1955 and is the county's largest primary employer.
